Through modified aesthetics pioneered by experimental filmmaker Maya Deren, Sam tells stories about people in distress. As someone diagnosed with anxiety in high school, Sam has an inside eye for crafting an anxious atmosphere in their films. Characters are often either suffering from high spurts of anxiety, drowning in their fears, or taking a moment to breathe in the calm before the storm (or after it!). The heightened states of the characters tend to provoke both hilarious and horrifying scenarios. Inspired by the aesthetics of David Lynch, Sam explores what it means to be an outsider in a world that does not want to acknowledge the fear it inspires, and the love and connection that can be found when we confront these fears in ourselves and each other.
